You know that feeling when you're watching TV and suddenly realize your tablet battery is about to die? Of course you do! The solution: plug in your tablet to an outlet. This little trick will save you the headache of constantly checking if your phone's charging or not, and it'll also allow for much longer sessions on Netflix. Earlier this year, Liliputing's very own Jason Cipriani wrote a great piece on the benefits of doing this, and why it's a good idea to keep your battery topped off. According to Jason, you can typically get up to 40 hours of usage on a tablet when plugged in. I've had my iPad Air plugged in since about 2:30pm yesterday, and I'm still kind of shocked by how long I've been able to use it. The average person would probably get about 24-26 hours out of their tablet if they put it on airplane mode or charged it from their laptop, but I've been able to get over 35 hours by just leaving my iPad alone. I've noticed that applications tend to drain quicker than usual, like Spotify, but I was still able to play music streaming radio for hours on end. At this point, my iPad is about 70% full, so if I were to charge it right now I'd probably get another 10-12 hours of use. Don't believe me? Head on over to the link above and read Jason's article first, then do this at your own risk. You can almost always trust Liliputians with advice. It's a good idea to periodically plug your tablet in while it's charging, because this will help condition the battery so that it can handle a full charge more quickly. People have complained about the latest version of iOS being less tolerant to devices being plugged in and idle, so if you're not getting the max battery life from your device, try leaving it plugged in for a few minutes every couple of hours. In iOS 9, Apple introduced an idle timer that will wake up your device from sleep after several minutes if you're not using it. If your device just loses power, you can still rely on the auto-lock feature to keep it from sleeping for too long. It's important to note that running out of battery is not a good thing, and this is definitely something you don't want to do. If your tablet or smartphone goes down for more than a few minutes, charge it back up as soon as possible because you could be in danger if it dies out completely.
